Diseases & Conditions of Airedale
Terrier
Symptoms and treatment
- ·
Hip dysplasia is a condition in which
the femur and hip joint do not match properly and cause pain and lameness. Less
severe cases can be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, but surgery can be
necessary in severe cases.
- ·
Hyperadrenocorticism is a disorder that
affects the dog's adrenal glands. In this case, Airedale Terrier produces
excess glucocorticoids and becomes sick. Symptoms include increased water
consumption and an appetite for food. Swelling, hair loss, thinning and
dehydration of the skin can occur. If you notice any of these signs, it is
important that you ask your vet for help.
- ·
Commonly occurring hypothyroidism In all
breeds, hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not normally produce
enough thyroid hormone due to inflammation. Some symptoms of an underactive
thyroid include abnormal weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, ear infections, and
lethargic behavior.
- ·
Pannus is the abnormal growth of the
corneal tissue and can affect the Airedale Terrier. Cherry eye is a common name
for the incident of the third eyelid gland. The result is a third inverted
eyelid. The condition is common and can be treated by your veterinarian.
