Akita Overview
The Akita is a striking large and powerful dog with
a detached posture. The Akita can be territorial and the dog generally does not
welcome strangers.
They are double-layer dogs and their inner layer is
thick and warm, with a short top layer.
These dogs are considered heavy jugs, which means
that not only do they lose twice a year, they also drop their hair regularly
throughout the year.
There are two races of Akita; the Japanese Akita,
which is white, red or tabby, and the American Akita, which is available in a
variety of colors, including black, black tabby, blue tabby, brown, brown
tabby, tabby, fawn and the brindle tabby.
The Japanese Akita is known as "Akita Inu"
or "Japanese Akita" and the American line is known as
"Akita" or "American Akita".
Akitas males weigh 38 to 54 kg and females 34 to 50
kg. Akitas males measure 61 to 71 cm and females 61 to 66 cm.
The average lifespan of an Akita is 11 to 15 years.
