Facts: President Theodore Roosevelt was a huge fan of the Airedale Terrier. He is quoted once and says, "An Airedale can do anything another dog can, and then he licks the other dog."
During the First World War, the Airedale Terrier was known for its great courage in the face of the overwhelming danger. An example is when an Airedale named Jack went through intense enemy fire to send a message to another row of trenches that are more than half a mile away. Jack conveyed the message with a broken jaw and leg that fell moments after he arrived.
The Airedale is the largest type of building and is often referred to as the "king of buildings". Because of its size and independence, it is very important that its owner be portrayed as the dominant leader of the peloton. Otherwise Airedale takes control.
The Airedale Terrier became very popular among the upper classes of the United States and Great Britain after its brave exploits during the First World War. Airedale's notable owners include car designers Ferry Porsche, Ringo Star, Maria Schell, James Joyce, Lloyd George and Winston Churchill.
The Airedale Terrier, with a strong sense of smell and a concerned hunting instinct, was also used as a search and rescue dog.
